Winter Conference 2012

On Sunday evenings at 5PM throughout the winter, we welcome guest speakers from across Southeast Michigan. These pastors and Bible scholars will address varying topics related to Scripture, theology, the Christian life, and church ministry.

January 29th - Ken Pierpont

"The Power of the Local Church"

In November of 2007 Ken Pierpont was called to be the Senior Pastor of Evangel Baptist Church in Taylor, MI. Ken hold a masters degree from Moody Graduate School and has been a pastor for thirty years. He has devoted himself to clear, practical, lively preaching and Bible teaching. He and his wife, Lois have four sons, four daughters, and a grandson.

February 5th - Paul Held

"1 Corinthians 13"

Dr. Held serves as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Bible Church in Lapeer. He received a Masters of Divinity degree from the Masters Seminary and a Ph.D. from the Wales Evangelical School of Theology. After being ordained at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA he served as a missionary, training pastors and building churches in several countries in the former Soviet Union. He and his wife, May have two children.

February 12th - Robert McCabe

"Genesis 1 Creationism"

Dr. McCabe is professor of Old Testament and Registrar at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to coming to DBTS, Dr. McCabe taught for four years at Tennessee Temple University. He joined the faculty of DBTS in 1983 as head of the Old Testament department. He earned the M.Div degree at Temple Baptist Theological Seminary in 1974, and the Th.M. and Th.D. degrees at Grace Theological Seminary. Dr. McCabe has served as the pastor of Ormas Baptist Church in Columbia City, Indiana and has conducted Bible Conferences and served as pulpit supply in numerous churches. Dr. McCabe and his wife, Linda, reside in Allen Park and have three children.

February 19th - Dan Winnberg

"Christ Brings Peace to Chaos" - Philippians 4:4-7

Dan Winnberg has been in ministry at Inter-City Baptist Church since 2000 and joined the pastoral staff in 2005. Prior to coming on pastoral staff he served as a Bible teacher at Inter-City Baptist High School while completing his M.Div. and Th.M at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary. Dan is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He teaches the young married adult Bible class at his church, and oversees the church's information management and technology departments. He and his wife, Meredith, have three children.

February 26th - Chris Tenneriello

"Traditions vs. Traditionalism"

Chris Tenneriello is the senior pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Grand Blanc. He has been a pastor for over 20 years and has been married to Jan for over 28 years. They have also been blessed with three children, all of whom are married. They also have been enjoying the additional blessing of three grandchildren. He graduated with from Central Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master's of Divinity in 1991.

March 4th - Ken Brown

"Positive Holiness"

Pastor Ken Brown is the Senior Pastor of Community Baptist Church in Flat Rock, MI. A graduate of Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div), he is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at Westminster Theological Seminary. He served for nine years as Associate Pastor at Huron Baptist Church in Flat Rock, MI. In 2001, HBC commissioned Pastor Brown to lead a church-plant team in establishing Community Baptist Church. He serves with his wife, Kim, and their two daughters.

March 11th - Fred Froman

"When Bad Things Happen to Godly People" - Job 1

Fred Froman became the Pastor of Holt Baptist Church in January 2007. The passion of his heart is to communicate God's Word accurately and clearly with practical, everyday application. Pastor Fred has served churches for a dozen years in associate roles, as well as 16 years as a pastor in Farmington, Michigan. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Pastoral Studies along with a Masters of Ministry. The Fromans have four children.

March 18th - Jim Lorch

"Keys to Sanctification" - Romans 6-8

Jim is the Senior Pastor of Hunters Creek Community Church in Lapeer. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Cedarville University (BA) and Grace Theological Seminary (M. Div. ). Before coming toHunters Creek in 2003, Jim served as an associate pastor at Merriam Christian Chapel in Albion, IN. He and his wife, Karen, have four children.

March 25th - Terry Burlingame

"Rejoicing in a Complaining World" - Habakkuk 3:17-19

Terry Burlingame is a counselor with the Biblical Counseling Center in Jenison, Michigan, and serves on the Board of David's House Ministries, which provides homes with a Christian foundation for those with developmental disabilities. Previously, Terry served for over 18 years as an Army Chaplain and as Senior Pastor of Grandville Baptist Church for 10 years. He is a graduate of Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary and Westminster Seminary (Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Counseling).

April 1st (AM) - Bruce Ware

Dr. Ware is professor of Christian Theology at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a highly esteemed theologian and author in the evangelical world. He holds a Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary and served for many years at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School as Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biblical and Systematic Theology. Prior to this, he taught at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary and Bethel Theological Seminary. Dr. Ware is the author of many books including God's Lesser Glory: The Diminished God of Open Theism; God's Greater Glory: The Exalted God of Scripture; and the Christian Faith, and Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: Relationships, Roles, and
Relevance.

April 1st - Jared Compton

"Is the Resurrection Historically Reliable?"

Jared Compton is an instructor in New Testament at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, having joined the faculty in 2011. He received his M.Div. from DBTS in 2007 and is a Ph.D. candidate in New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is a member of a handful of scholarly societies (ETS, IBR, SBL) and currently serves on the editorial board for the Trinity Journal. Jared and his wife Charisse have three children.
